Punta Conejo Resort

Salina Cruz, Mexico

Overview

Punta Conejo Resort was created with the vision to provide a unique and tranquil ocean front resort experience in the land of right hand sand points. In short, this is a surfer’s dream come true. Located on the beautiful beaches of Playa Brasillito, the resort sits directly behind a classic 300 meter right hand ‘Malibu type’ sand point called Punta Conejo. This location was chosen because it is close enough to town that you can experience the bustling city and nightlife of Salina Cruz yet far enough out of town to relax and unwind with the sound of waves crashing on the shore after a long day of surfing.

Punta Conejo Resort has the modern tech luxuries to keep surfers connected via WiFi and cell signal plus the great food, accommodation and personalized service our Waterways packages are known for. The grass roots authentic feel of the property is enhanced by embracing the local artisans, culture, and surrounding natural environment. With very few non-surfing tourists, the beaches in this area of Mexico are absent of vendors selling tourist trinkets and instead are loaded with right hand barrels for the taking.

The newly built Punta Conejo Resort offers ocean front, air conditioned accommodations and great local cuisine with a house bar. Your private guides not only get you to the best waves with 4 wheel drive trucks, they make sure you have a chance to explore the local area and partake in non-surfing activities such as fishing, diving, horseback riding and much more.

Surf & Seasons

The Surf

The coastline from Huatulco south to Salina Cruz is mainly comprised of right points that are stacked nearly back-to-back with picturesque beaches. Each of these sand-bottomed points has its own characteristics. There is a point to suit every style of surfer from the tube enthusiast to shortboarders and longboarders. The bulky headlands and curves of the coast allow for different waves to work on different winds making it rare to find undesirable conditions. The waves around Salina Cruz are true gems. Due to poor dirt road conditions that spider-web to the coast with no posted signs, and often the need to drive on the beach, it can be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reach any of these waves without a guide and 4 x 4 vehicle. Punta Escondida Surf Tours has you covered with 3 Dodge Ram Trucks, 2 Chevy Suburbans, and 1 GMC Canyon to get you to these hard to access surf spots. The season in this particular region of Mexico is April through October when the south swells consistently correspond with favorable, or at least workable, wind conditions. We have decided not to name any of the specific breaks in this area, but are certain the photos will be enough to convince you the quality exists!

Synopsis:

Mexico divides into two surf seasons, and they both have their advantages: March to October is southern hemisphere swell time and Mexico is swept with energy from the southern hemisphere. November to April provides a sunny, warm-water escape for frigid refugees from the upper 48, with surf that is generally smaller, but with dry offshores and perfect conditions. WaterWays has designed packages to take advantage of the variety of conditions available throughout the year, and offer a variety of Mexico surf packages.

Northern mainland, the area around Mazatlan, is best during the wet season months of April through October. During these months surf is generated from both the southern hemisphere and local hurricanes that spin up the coast from Central America and usually dissipate around the tip of Cabo San Lucas. Do not let the rain discourage your trip to this area. The showers are usually brief, occurring in the late afternoon, when you most likely will be taking a siesta after surfing all morning. The rain will lull you to sleep.

Central mainland Mexico, the area around Puerto Vallarta, picks up swells from the northwest to the southwest. Best months in this area are typically the dryer months of November through May.

Traveling out of the bay of Puerto Vallarta and heading south, the coastline turns to the east by southeast and faces a more southerly direction. The south coast around Puerto Escondido is best during the south swell months of April through October.

Southern mainland Mexico is the location Punta Escondida Surf Tours covers the Huatulco and Salina Cruz region. This section of coast begins to bend southeast into the Gulf of Tehuantepec making it an ideal location for the strong south swells generated during the wet season, April through October. This newly discovered and difficult to access area is host to numerous world-class sand-bottomed points and hollow beachbreaks.
