The Yacht & Accommodations
The blue shark - according to Wikipedia - (Prionace glauca) is a species of requiem shark that inhabits deep waters in the world's temperate and tropical oceans. Preferring cooler waters, blue sharks migrate long distances, such as from New England to South America.
Although generally lethargic, they can move very quickly. Blue sharks are noted for large litters of 25 to over 100 pups. They feed primarily on small fish and squid, although they can take larger prey. Blue sharks often school segregated by sex and size, and this behavior has led to their nickname "wolves of the sea".
Very interesting, when applied to the Maldivian surf vessel Blue Shark. This is an 80-foot yacht fully air-conditioned and set up for surfers of all sexes and sizes who prefer tropical waters and are willing to migrate halfway around the world to get a taste of the sunny surf in this wave-lashed, just-above-sea-level archipelago.
Blue Shark can handle as many as 18 guests, who may or may not sleep segregated by sex and size, in 9 private, air-conditioned cabins – each with a double bed and a single bunk, with en suite toilet, shower and hand-basin.
Like blue sharks, surfers move quickly but can also be lethargic. Blue Shark is ready to move quickly, but also is set up for periods of extreme lethargy. Blue Shark is powered by a 275 HP Yanmar marine diesel engine for a cruising speed of 8 to 11 knots. The big boat has a smaller support dhoni and tender for surfers who want to get to the reefs quickly or any guest interested in island hopping.
After six or eight hours of hard surfing under the hot sun, surfers feeling lethargic will find lots of shady corners to eat, sleep and be merry. Blue Shark features an expansive sun deck up top, while the dining room, saloon and bar are stocked with snacks and drinks around the clock.
Surfers can be “wolves of the sea” when it comes to mealtime and like blue sharks they also like to grind on fish and squid and larger prey. Fish is one of the cornerstones of the meals served on Blue Shark in addition to a variety of western and Asian dishes; and as we all know, surfers travel on their stomachs.
Blue sharks cruise smooth and confident along the edges of reef - Blue Shark with its tropical wood finishes and fine linens does the same just above the surface. Blue Shark is the Maldives yacht for surfers who are on the cusp of luxury and a budget
