Costa/Nica Charter Surf

COSTA RICA SURF CHARTERS

Costa Rica Surf Charters has brought the surf charter dream trip closer to home and has created an amazing niche for itself in the process. The Aquadesiac is a 52-foot Trawler which runs 3 different surf charters in CR and Nicaragua. Each of these charters offers a surfing experience that is unlike anything else in either country. If you’d like to surf great waves efficiently without crowds, dirt roads, rental cars, etc., Costa Rica Surf Charters is hands-down your best option.

The Boat:
The Aquadesiac (formerly the Giuseppina) is a 52-foot replica of a classic Grand Banks Trawler, owned and operated by American skipper and surfer John Clarke and his wife Beth. It is based out of Playa Hermosa, north of Playa Del Coco, in northern Guanacaste, just 20 minutes from the Liberia International Airport. This close proximity to the surf and the airport allows most travelers to surf on the first and last day of their trip, maximizing water time. Cruising speed is 8-10 knots, getting you to Witch’s Rock in a little over an hour. When the tides are more favorable for Ollie’s Point, you can relax and enjoy the scenery for another hour as you motor there after your session at Witch’s.

The yacht has 3 staterooms (sleeps 6), 2 bathrooms outfitted with showers, a full kitchen, salon, lower and upper pilot houses. Everywhere on the boat is comfortable from the solan to the fully cushioned bow and topside decks which double as beds if you’d like to sleep under the stars.

The Aquadesiac meets Coast Guard standards with lifejackets, fire extinguishers and first aid equipment and is approved for 22 passengers. Other safety features include sonar, GPS, radar, autopilot and an auto-navigation plotter to insure worry-free travel under all conditions.

Witches Rock / Ollie’s Point:
The Aquadesiac is the only charter boat allowed to overnight in the Santa Rosa National Park in Northern Coast Rica, which is home to Witches Rock, Ollie’s Point, Isla Colorado and Labrynth. The only way for other surfers to access this surf zone is by a bumpy 45 minute to hour and a half panga ride or teeth-jarring drive by 4x4 when weather permits. Since the Aquadesiac anchors right at these waves you are very likely to have the waves to yourself for 2+ hrs in the early morning and again in the late afternoon when the pangas have headed back to shore. Imagine surfing overhead Ollie’s Point with perfect morning conditions and only your friends in the water. Experiences like these are happening with mind-blowing regularity as the Aquadesiac is the only vessel doing overnights in the park.

Nicoya Peninsula (Playa Grande to Mal Pais):
The Nicoya Peninsula, a 100 mile stretch of coastline in Northern Costa Rica going south through Tamarindo and Nosara, all the way to Mal Pais. The coast is teeming with surf and is home to some of the best waves in Costa Rica. One of the biggest benefits to being on a boat is easily accessing spots that are either difficult or impossible to get to by land. Given the rains and road quality in Costa Rica, even bigger name spots can be difficult to access any other way after heavy rains. Costa Rica Surf Charters’ goal is to bring you to the type of surf you’re looking for without the crowds or stress of getting to them by land. Charter begins in Playa Grande or Tamarindo heading south towards Mal Pais.
